With many of us currently stuck in an Arctic freeze, what better beer of the week to feature than…
I had the pleasure of visiting 3 Floyds Brewing Co. in Indiana this past summer. It was a Friday night, we had the kids with us at the end of a very long series of road-trips. To say the hubs & I needed a beer was an epic understatement.
I couldn’t help but fall in love with the name of one particular beer on the menu: Arctic Panzer Wolf. Especially in the summer. I’m one of those freaks who gets nostalgic for winter in the humid summer months. Since this beer also happened to be an Imperial IPA… well, it was a sure-fire win in this hop-head’s eyes. And since I was done with my shift of driving, the 9.5% ABV beer was something I knew I could handle. *hands the hubs the minivan keys*
The thing is, Arctic Panzer Wolf tastes much lighter than the 9.5% ABV implies. The initial bold flavors of citrus, hops and pine mellow out in the finish. Instead of a bitter aftertaste that some IPAs can leave you with, there is a very subtle hint of apricot in the finish. While I wouldn’t necessarily call it a sweet beer, the balance of bitter and sweet is a nice surprise.
If you have been leery of trying IPAs in the past, give 3 Floyds Arctic Panzer Wolf a few tastes.
You never know, your palate may thank you.
3 Floyds is not the easiest beer to find, but here is their location map. If you do not live within 3 Floyds’ distribution footprint, consider a beer trade with a friend near there!
