We just spent the last few months soaking up the summer sun, and let’s be honest here, some air-conditioning too (my crankiness tends to correlate with the thermometer – don’t know how I survived 3 summers in Arizona) I’ve always found autumn to be a pretty sweet reward; bonfires, pumpkin-spiced everything, cozy sweatshirts, adorable scarfs, sexy boots, tailgating, football and unbelievable-I-didn’t-realize-that-fiery-shade-of-red/yellow/orange-existed trees. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, our skin soaked up the summer sun & air conditioning… and as our tans fade, so does some of the youth of our skin.
Oh yes, my friends. Our skin is an evil age indicator.
Or is it?
The sun isn’t all bad for you… let’s face it, vitamin D is a powerful mood booster! But it also dries out your skin, cursing you with age-spots and wrinkles.
Take care of your skin!
Moisturize with a sunscreen-enhanced lotion daily, exfoliate a couple times a week… blah blah blah, you have probably heard the drill a million times. But it’s true.
And autumn is a perfect time to treat your skin to a facial!
But who can afford a trip to the spa? As much as I truly enjoy an in-spa facial, my wallet can’t afford one as often as I’d like. So I’m here to share a very special at-home autumn facial just for you, my friends! It’s main ingredient is pumpkin & everything!
Why pumpkin? Pumpkin contains Vitamins A, C, E & zinc along with exfoliants that help protect your skin while gently dissolving dead skin cells. Pumpkin also helps you slow down that nasty aging process by reducing lines & wrinkles. Fall into autumn with this awesome nourishing mask that will leave your skin looking fantastic & you feeling refreshed.
Momma’s Fall Facial
1 cup pureed fresh or canned pumpkin
1 tablespoon honey
a dash of nutmeg, cloves & cinnamon to your liking
For extra exfoliation, add in a few ground pumpkin seeds.
Mix together desired ingredients in a small bowl and apply liberally to your face; find a peaceful place (lock yourself in the bathroom if you have to) and relax for 15 minutes while you breathe in the spices of your yummy-smelling mask… and try not to devour it. Once the 15 minutes is up, rinse off and follow up with moisturizer. Note, if you choose to use the ground pumpkin seeds, either rinse off over a garbage disposal or into a bowl.
You can double this recipe and use it all over your body in the shower, just be sure to skip the pumpkin seeds — or else the hubs or your favorite plumber will probably have a few choice words for you. Feel free to use this facial once or twice a month… your skin will thank you. And you can still whine about having to pull out your ID at the bar, even though you know you secretly love it.
