Capture the Everyday: What’s your child’s favorite toy?

Today, I’m linking up with Melissa at Adventuroo for Capture the Everyday
Today’s assignment: What’s your child’s favorite toy?
My oldest’s favorite toy is Sam, the bear. Sam was purchased about 6 weeks before Natalie was born. Sam got me through my very awful 2nd (and not last) day of labor. I abused the hell out of that bear, and I’m glad he survived, because he’s slept with Natalie just about every night of her life, since she was about 10 months old (after I got over the fear of him suffocating her). My oldest is nearly 6 1/2 and she still can’t go a night without him. Many times, Natalie won’t leave the city of Grand Rapids without Sam. If Sam is forgotten somewhere, God help us. We’re basically expected to walk through fire to find him again. Who’s running this house again?
My youngest also has a favorite bear, Buddy. My mother-in-law received him after donating to Habitat for Humanity. Sedona found him one day at Nana’s house and quickly attached to him… as you can see, he is loved. Buddy has been put through the wash — a couple times by accident, but a few times, in a garment bag. Buddy used to be taken everywhere Sedona went, but after almost losing him several times (he is much smaller than Sam) I managed to convince her Buddy is an “at-home” toy. I’ve tried replacing Buddy with newer, better stuffed animals, but my plan backfired and all potential replacements have taken over her bed. However, Buddy remains king.
Confession time: I actually slept with my own little bear until I was married. Yup. I’m a freakshow. Since the hubs is a human furnace, I can’t snuggle with him for long, so I have upgraded to several pillows since giving up my own bear. I think the hubs would appreciate me going back to the bear instead of the 3 pillows I now require.
Do your kids have a favorite toy? Do you?
Capture the Everyday is about getting you to capture those everyday moments in your life! Each Thursday, Melissa issues a simple challenge to capture something that’s a part of your daily life. You can post just a picture or add some words to go along with it. You’ll have a week to get it done and then I’ll issue another. It’s a quick, easy way to start capturing those little parts of life we sometimes take for granted.

I love this idea, but where did you find it?

My youngest Daughter has Wunny Babs, a rabbit she received for Easter from her Great Grandmother when she was 8 or 9. Jen is nearly 41 and that rabbit was on her bed until she got married again last year. I have a feeling he’s still not far away.

My daughter’s favorite thing is her purple blanket “Blue”. Can’t leave the house without it.
I couldn’t leave my house without my CareBear, Tenderlot! That bear went to college with me!

I slept with a teddy bear until I had my oldsest son. I to, now use pillows to cuddle and surround myself with. Oddly, my own kids don’t seem to have any one thing that they can’t live without.

I totally love their loveys! Big Roo has a PINK bear that he still sleeps with. He’s only 4 and he still loves that bear as much as he did when he got it.

    Thanks for linking up!

lol I TOTALLY slept with a bear until I got married, too! 🙂 I have a heart-to-heart teddy bear that makes heartbeat sounds when you snuggle him. I’ve had him since I was two. You’re not alone 😉
It’s so sweet to see a teddy bear lovin’ family. My kid’s favorite toys are all junky plastic things. There’s just something so comfortable and organic about snuggling up with a sweet teddy bear.

Apparently there are a whole lot of us who belong to your “freakshow”, Kelli. I, too, slept with a bear. He still gets hauled out when my husband is away for work or on his annual attempt to (and fail at)kill something with antlers.

My elder son has Dug-Dug, a ratty looking large blue teddy bear. A gift for his first birthday, he latched on to that bear and took it all over the house and on any overnight for many years. Dug-Dug still sleeps on Iain’s bed, next to him.
A few months back, I suggested that the bear be put away (he’ll be kept and stored with the other baby things). Iain blew a gasket. I daresay that the boy may take this critter to college with him… if we can ever convince him to leave home.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, friends! Happy I’m not alone in my bear-loving family.

I’m another one who slept with stuffed animals well into adulthood! Glad to read I’m not the only one. 🙂
