A song that inspires me: Scratch Your Name, The Noisettes
This prompt was a no-brainer. I always feel empowered & inspired after hearing and singing along to this anthem of a song. I feel like it’s my theme song… and when I ever get blocked while writing, or if I’m having a bad day in any way, shape or form, I crank this tune up to get the motivation rolling again.
Even though it’s been on my iPod for years, this song still gives me chills. The heavy guitars, Shingal Shoniwa’s hauntingly striking vocals singing Scratch your name, into the fabric of this world, before you go… and the fact that the lead singer is also the bass player, well… This singer/bass player loves shit like that. As an added bonus, my daughters also love this song and make me play it over & over… I have yet to get sick of hearing it, and I love that the song also inspires my girls on some level. I’m hoping they continue to appreciate it as the years go on.
Here are the lyrics for your viewing pleasure. Crank it up and sing along!!
Inside spotlight, fire is burning in my eyes
In 2025 there’ll be fantasy costumes for your psyche
We had a deal we had a sign we had a deal that was broken
I’m not fooling around, fooling around,
Over hills under ground break it open
Scratch your name
Into the fabric
Of this world
Before you go
The skin will tear
Under the pressure
Make it deep
So it always shows
In a trance petrified to dance
You wait in the wings for your curtain call
On your marks come on, get set go
People defend your sovereignty
We had a deal, you were divine
We had a deal that was no King
I’m not fooling around, Mr merry go round
Or convulse on the floor like a rabid
Scratch your name
As true as love is insane
Scratch your name
Into the fabric
Of this world
Before you go
The skin will tear
Under the pressure
Make it deep
So it always shows
