First Blogiversary

One year ago today, thanks to a little nudge from my friend Alissa at Have Stroller Will Travel, I quietly started this blog with In the Beginning, There Were Books and followed it up with Asking for Help is Hard. Both of these posts still hold a special place in my heart. I believe I have grown so much in the last year, even though the root of my writing has remained the same: Light-hearted and honest, humor-based parenting posts with a positive spin. Light-hearted, as in, I try to laugh at the bullshit, like in the Olympic sport of grocery shopping with kids, or Clean-up on Aisle 9, sharing my past and present adventures in a few Thirsty Thursday posts, like What do you do with a drunken sailor? and Fun at Winter Beer Fest. But when I’m not laughing at myself, I’ve taken a moment or two to address some issues important to me; without bumming you out, if you haven’t read 10 reasons why I love Tucson, take a second to at least look at the photos. A piece of my heart remains there, that’s for sure. *somewhat related sidenote* how awesome was it to see my Arizona Wildcats DEMOLISH Duke last week?! Double bonus for this chic.

Sure, I can vent with the best of them, like when I Unfriended My Mom on Facebook or wrote about Looking Past the Book-cover, but I always aim to end those passion-fueled posts on some level of a positive note. Every cloud does have a silver-lining! But my favorite ways to connect with you are when I can highlight ways to celebrate YOU. Whether it’s discussing ways to let your inner light shine or putting yourself first, I believe that once that parent label is attached, we’ve all struggled with the Superparent title at some point… ok, daily! But it’s so vital to every parent’s sanity to embrace the moment and celebrate every biglittle victory.

You guys have been all kinds of awesome over the last year. I wish I could personally hug those of you who have reached out through comments on here, facebook, twitter & countless emails. I couldn’t have accomplished what I have this last year without you. The title of this blog could have probably has pissed off a few people who likely judged the blog by it’s title and moved on. But those of you who have stopped to take a read know I’m not some drunken Momma, stumbling through parenthood one beer at a time. I usually call my sitter before I morph into her.

Congratulations Kelli! I really can’t believe it’s been a year already – I’ve been following from the start. Looking forward to having you make me smile, even if just for a moment, as your posts always seem to pop up on some of my “crazy, about to explode, why do I have kids???” type of days 🙂
