I love this time of year. To be fair, I’m pretty content with life September – January. I find so many reasons to celebrate & express gratitude. But my absolute favorite holiday comfort is experiencing the first snow.

There’s something magical about it.
I can feel it in the air no, not in a Phil Collins kinda way, but I have to admit, I sang that in my head when I wrote that. I smell the snow coming a few hours before the first sparkly flake falls. I’m a bit of a freak about it. When I inhale and smell that snow coming it, I get butterflies and I feel like a giddy child anticipating that white-out moment when I look outside and see the sky exploding with glimmering snowflakes. The earth feels like it’s at a stand-still; I get chills just hearing each flake fall to the ground as the first white blanket of snow covers up the dead leaves that fall had forgotten. Everything is aglow and almost ironically more alive again. Seeing Christmas lights glowing underneath the freshly fallen snow is especially comforting.

As I mentioned in my Christmastime is Here post last week, we typically turn our noses up at tradition — we’re rebels, what can I say? We almost always put up our Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving so we can relax & enjoy our decor and the season more. The tradition in our house is to put them up the same day the first snowflake falls. Let me correct myself, our tradition is putting up the decor whenever we have the energy to do it we feel like it, but it usually coincides with the first snow. The first snowfall happened last week, and it truly inspired me to get the tree and everything up almost immediately. We’re still working on getting the Christmas lights placed outdoors, but having the indoor decor complete makes me so happy.

My kids too!

Every morning, my 3 1/2 year old wakes up and sees the Christmas tree all lit up and says “What a beeee-u-tiful Christmas tree! I love our Christmas tree, Momma.” Whenever visitors come over, she points out ornaments she knows are special. My oldest remembered how special a tiny purple turtle ornament I received after a neighbor came home from a trip to Japan was to me. I received that ornament as a child, but, like the first snowfall, I get goosebumps & butterflies placing it onto my Christmas tree. It warms my heart. The sentiment is so sweet. So real.

I hope both of my daughters continue to enjoy everything comforting about Christmas through the end of the year as much as we do.

Comfort is the perfect gift for everyone on your holiday gift list, so be sure to take advantage of Tempur-Pedic’s Buy 2, get 1 free pillow offer! I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective.
