Life List

What’s on your Life List?

Over the last several years, I’ve randomly posted goals, resolutions and dreams right here on my blog. Some of the following items may have entire posts dedicated to them. Some of these items may never get crossed off — for example — I highly doubt I’ll be able to afford to cross off every destination I’d like to travel to unless I win the lottery. But I can dream, yes?

This week, thanks to the brilliant idea from Alissa at Clever Compass, I’m linking up with several fabulous bloggers (check them out in the linky at the end of this post!) to share our Life Lists. Together, we are each answering the question What do you want accomplish in your lifetime? Maybe we can help each other cross a thing or two off our lists.

Later this week, I hope to share a few things I’ve already crossed off my Life List over the years.

A year from now, I hope to revisit this list and feel good about crossing off at least a few items. It is a LIFE list, after all, no pressure to get everything done in one year. Geesh. Can you even imagine?!

For now, here is what I decided to attempt to accomplish from age 35 onward…

  • Home-brew beer
  • Take my daughters to Arizona & explore for 10 days.
  • Watch the sun rise & set in the same day, potentially in the Leelanau Peninsula rustic campground.
  • Take my daughters to Mackinac Island.
  • Take my daughters camping in da UP, eh?
  • Take my daughters skiing.
  • Chair or co-chair a school fundraiser.
  • Host a beer/food pairing party.
  • Host a brewery tour around Grand Rapids in a limo or party bus.
  • Speak at a conference.
  • Take my family on a train-ride across the country.
  • Play at least 2 gigs/year for 5 years straight (1 year down, 4 to go!)
  • Play a gig at a brewery.
  • Learn to play the cello.
  • Learn to play a song on the guitar.
  • Learn to sew a dress/purse/skirt.
  • Learn to knit or crochet.
  • Learn to speak a foreign language fluently.
  • Learn to use my Granni’s potter’s wheel & kiln
    • Make a set of beer steins.
  • Learn to sail.
    • Sail Lake Michigan, Superior & Huron in one summer.
  • Swim in Lake Michigan, Superior & Huron in one summer.
  • Vlog a how-to French braid video.
  • Write a book… that gets published.
  • Write a song… that doesn’t suck.
  • Submit an ArtPrize Entry.
  • Perform on Broadway.
  • Attend a Broadway musical on Broadway.
  • Attend a Letterman taping.
  • See Saturday Night Live… LIVE in Studio 8H.
  • Appear on the Ellen show… somehow.
  • Build a chicken coop & raise chickens
  • Ride in a Hot Air Balloon.
  • Skydive.
  • Make my own sushi.
  • Shuck oysters.
  • Create a useful iPhone app.
  • Rent a big house with friends in the middle of nowhere… without the kids.
  • Take a vacation with another family.
  • Plant an herb & vegetable garden… that actually grows enough to harvest & enjoy!
  • Talk about beer on TV.
  • Open up a brewery with kick-ass food to go with our mind-blowingly good beer.

See the following bands live, in concert:

  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • The Black Keys

Love your list and the many similarities we have. I would love to see the French braid vlog and a how to French braid you own hair too. Perhaps we can go to Bora Bora together and check two things off your list and one off of mine.

Yes!! I think it might actually be easier to vlog a how-to french braid my own hair before capturing the ever squirmy Sedona… but I do it just about every day. I just need a camera operator. 😉 I do believe it’ll be something that gets crossed off this year! Thanks for the nudge!

And yes — a trip to Bora Bora together would be a DREAM! I just think, if you planned for it, vacationing with another family could actually save you some money in the long run — sharing a suite or rental home instead of a solitary hotel room, sharing meals together, being able to couple off at night, leave the kids with whoever’s turn it is to stay with the sleeping children, etc. Let’s DO IT! 🙂

This is awesome. I love it. Love the breakdown of travel, I would have kept going because I’d love to see the world!! I’ll meet you in NYC, we can walk the Brooklyn Bridge with Alissa, Celebrate Jen’s birthday and maybe by then the top of the Statue of Liberty will be open for me! Or we can hot air balloon it together. 🙂

Thanks, Andrea! I know… I had been working on my list on & off for about a week now, just tossing items into my Blogger app as they came to me. I could’ve gotten WAY more detailed… so I had to stop myself and just hit publish already. 😉 And YES!!! There’s definitely a few things NYC-related on all of our lists… Just within our group of LifeList-ers, we could easily cross off a dozen items! NYC OR BUST!

I’m volunteering my ex to help you cross something off your list. He’s a homebrewer. Cross two things off your list at once – a trip to dc and homebrewing. He lives about a half hour or so outside the city. He’d love to brew with you. (BTW – I asked him first ;)).

HA!! Awesome, Judi!! I have several people volunteering to help me cross that off my list… 😉 But if I had the opportunity to travel to DC to get a few tips from another expert, I’d be all over it!

      CHEERS!!

A few of things…I’ve seen a sunrise and sunset from the Leelanau rustic campground!! While I was pregnant with Cedella no less, and though I would never do it again (I vowed after that to never camp without plumbing again) it was so incredible.

Second I’m still so down for a Grand Rapids pub tour. Maybe that’s something that I can help you achieve this year. I’ve got to know at least five or six women who love beer in Lansing that could go for a night out in GR. But until then I’ll settle for meeting you and Greg at the Winter Beer Fest next month!!

Third, thanks for reminding me about the chickens that I am DYING to raise. Fresh eggs are my crack.

Fourth, I don’t know anyone who likes Joss Stone like I do. So if she comes to Detroit can we go together?

Fifth, your travel list is AWESOME. I want to go to there…for all of those places too.

Great list my friend!! I wish you the best with all of it!!

I think I remember your post about camping in the Leelanau rustic! I wouldn’t have even considered camping there until the kids are as old as they are now. Can’t imagine trying to change diapers or deal with pregnancy in a rustic campground. YIKES! You’re a rockstar!! As for Joss Stone… I’d love to see her with ya! I have a long list of stipulations for purchasing concert tickets in Detroit… unless it’s on a Saturday. The drive home to GR from a Detroit concert is painful. I’ve lived & learned from a few bad experiences. This is also why my concert list isn’t longer. 😉 But ya never know, Joss could come to Lansing or GR, and I’d be all over that any night of the week!! As for my travel plans, I’m going to need to fall into a pile of money to complete all the travel I’ve listed… I LOVE Michigan… I live here for a reason, but exploring is SO fun.

Can’t wait for the Winter Beer Fest next month! CHEERS!!

I LOVE your list! I like how you categorized. Now you have me thinking of all the bands I want to see in concert! You also need to add my town to your travel list. 😉

    • Posted January 9, 2013 at 7:24 pm | Permalink

Thanks, Jen! That concert list has shrunk over the years… mainly because we spent a LOT of $$ on concerts over the years (wait until you see my “checked” list next week!) and now it costs even MORE to see someone live when you add in the spendy ticket, babysitter $$, dinner, drinks before, during & after… ugh. I’ve learned to only spend my money on a band I TRULY love… or to save it for travel to places where awesome folks live. 😉

Dude, you have about half of full (not completely published) life list on yours! We so need to get some sort of blogger travel thing going — so many of us have similar travel goals & we could totally use each other’s resources to put together some fab meet-ups!

Host a beer/food pairing party… um, you know we really don’t live *that* far away from each other, right? I would SO be up for doing something like this with you!!

    • Posted January 9, 2013 at 7:29 pm | Permalink

Great minds!!! I’d love to see your un-published list!

And I will absolutely include you if/when that beer party happens! I tried last year, but I didn’t get the turnout I was hoping for. Maybe I just needed a partner-in-crime. 😉 We’ll see what this summer brings.

      CHEERS!

I’m currently doing my best to learn to crochet and have found that one of its (most welcome) side effects is that it has helped me to not think about food so much while I’m trying to lose those “post-holiday” pounds! YAY!

Great list! I’m happy I found the blog hop.
