Oberon Orange-Ginger Bars {Recipe}

Spring has sprung — or at least, the calendar says it’s spring. Do you know what that means? Spring-Beer releases!! Today, I’m discussing Bell’s Oberon… later this week, I’ll be chatting about Founders KBS & Doom

Happy Oberon Day! Many area bars all over the country will offer Oberon on tap when they open today. You can also find Oberon wherever Bell’s beer is sold.

Oberon is a locally made, affordable wheat ale with a mild citrus finish; very light and easy to drink outside in your backyard, or on your favorite bar’s patio. The affordability & flavor make it very easy to marinate chicken & seafood in… and it works very well in my Oberon Orange-Ginger Bars… I shared the recipe with Rachael & Jordan on eightWest today.

Oberon Orange-Ginger Bars

2/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup Bell’s Oberon Beer
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
Orange Glaze:
2-3 cups confectioners’ sugar (to taste/desired thickness)
1/4 cup Bell’s Oberon Beer
1/4 cup orange juice
4 teaspoons butter, melted
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon orange zest

In a large bowl, cream butter & brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, fold in beer. Combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, orange zest and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in raisins.Spread mixture into a greased 13″ x 9″ baking pan. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Combine the glaze ingredients until smooth; spread over warm bars.
Cool on a wire rack before cutting into bars. Can be chilled or served at room-temperature.
Makes approximately 2 dozen bars.
