Happy New Year, friends!!
I was one happy gal waving goodbye to 2012. Sure, there were some fantastic moments I celebrated in 2012… sprinkled throughout the really awful, craptastic moments I needed to put a little alcohol on. But I’m beyond grateful for moments like the Winter Beer Fest, our family trip to Disney World, summer weekends at my family cottage on Lake Michigan, attending Type A, getting my feet wet in the wonderful world of vlogging, and possibly most of all: the hubs & my resurgence back into the music scene.
While 2012 wasn’t my favorite, I did survive, and now I’m looking forward to 2013 with a big fat SMILE on my face.
The hubs & I celebrated New Year’s Eve at home, which was one of the most fun NYE celebrations we’ve enjoyed in years. No expectations, comfy clothes, good food, beer & champagne… nowhere to drive, and we could stumble to bed whenever the hell we felt like it. WIN!! We had a blast chatting in our respective recliners while watching Kathy Griffin & Anderson Cooper on CNN. You would think that watching CNN on NYE would = lame. Are we officially old, or what!? Nah. Kathy challenging Anderson, making him giggle uncomfortably = television gold.
The hubs & I actually stayed up later than we anticipated. Last year, we were in bed before midnight… which was fine by me. This year, without any goals or expectations, we ended up having such a blast together, we were up past — get this — 2am! WTF?! Told ya I was giddy about kicking 2012 to the curb.
I know the first day of the new year is pretty much like any other day… but is it?
I feel like I’ve been given the gift of a clean slate, and that’s an empowering feeling.
Not only that, but 2013 is the year of the SNAKE… which is… ME! Yup. Astrologically, I’m a Leo, but… my Chinese animal is a Snake… look out world!!
Therefore, instead of making a long list of resolutions I may or may not fail, I’m looking forward to participating in a Life List hosted by Alissa @ Clever Compass next week. I’ll have things on my list I’d like to accomplish this year, next year, but mainly… someday. Everything from home-brewing my first batch of beer to skydiving & a lot of big & little things in between. I’m very excited to share my Life List with you, and if you’d like to join in on the fun, shoot me out an email and I’ll pass along the details!
What are you excited for in 2013, The Year of the Snake?
CHEERS!

I was also happy to kick 2012 to the curb. We hung out at home on NYE, too. I made (very strong) mimosas and we flipped between CNN and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, which is just not the same without Dick Clark. We rang in EST new year’s day, then headed upstairs. (It was only 11 here.) Looking forward to the Life List project and to a shiny new year. My birthday is 2/13, so 2013 feels like a lucky number for me. I must say, though, one of my top moments of last year was meeting you at Type-A! Hope we get to hang together in the new year.
I agree, Jen. We flipped around a bit too, but CNN was the most entertaining by a mile! I also hope we can hook up at some point this year. I had a blast with you last June… definitely a highlight of 2012!
Cheers to you, too, Kelli! We had a very similar NYE… Stayed home, Ryan made a delicious meal, I drank too much bubbly, we were thoroughly entertained by our 2 year old, then were up til 3! I paid for it dearly the next day, but it was well worth it. Happy 2013! It WILL be better than 2012.
It’s crazy how much more fun you can have at home with your favorite people, instead of somewhere crowded full of strangers… or at someone’s house-party with a few friends and a few people you kinda like, and a few strangers. 😉 I’ve attended a variety of NYE soirées over the years… I think ringing in 2013 at home with the hubs was my favorite… and may be a tradition we continue. Cheers to YOU, Jocelyn!
Three cheers for 2013! Loved seeing you last year, but so much else I am hapy to bid adieu. I think we are all going to rock this year. I love “13” and heck it has to beat last year, doesn’t it?
While 2012 wasn’t horrible for me, it definitely wasn’t my favorite year. One really spectacular things came out of it (my new job!), but before that happened, the year kinda sucked. 2013 is going to ROCK! 🙂
