The Hunt for a Great Pumpkin Beer

Happy Thirsty Thursday, friends!!

Fall is HERE! But my beloved Michigan Brewing Company Screaming Pumpkin is not. MBC sadly closed, so I am on a mission to find the next Great Pumpkin Beer!!
Today, I focus on a Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head Brewery. And yes, I am a huge dork in this vlog. Feel free to laugh at with me.
Enjoy this vlog? Head over to my YouTube channel to see my first 2 Pumpkin Beer tastings… they weren’t my favorite, but I will say that Arcadia’s flavor did flourish more & more with every sip.
Have any Pumpkin Beer suggestions for Momma? Pass them along on the comments!

I LOVE Dogfish’s Punkin! My all-time fave pumpkin beer has always been Lakefront Brewery’s, though. They’re in Milwaukee, but I saw their pumpkin out in CO last year, so you might have it too over in MI. Sorry if you mentioned it already in the video – I haven’t watched it yet. 😉 One good thing about being able to drink again in a few weeks is that it’s my favorite beer season – pumpkins, Oktoberfests, holiday spices, YUM!!

I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for Lakefront Brewery’s Pumpkin ale! Thanks for the tip, Jocelyn! And best of luck to you in the coming weeks… I’m sure you can almost smell the pumpkin ale. Soon you’ll be able to taste it again! YAY!

I love it when you vlog, I really do!! I also love, but am picky about Pumpkin brews too. Have you tried Olde Peninsula in Kalamazoo? Don’t love their other beers but their Pumpkin beer is fantastic. We get a growler every year!

Thanks, Jen!! The same friend that recommended the Dogfish Head also mentioned OP’s! We’ll have to make a trip down to kzoo ASAP and bring a growler for sure!

PS — Let me know if you’d like to join the VlogMom group… they will be closing membership soon. I think you’d be an excellent addition!

Hey lady, love this vlog cause I too am on the hunt for a Screamin’ Pumpkin replacement. Thankfully I have easy access to all the new stuff that comes into the store but sadly the only pumpkin beer I LOVED was Southern Tier’s Pumpking Ale. It was a beautiful orangey color and actually tasted of pumpkin pie with all the spices. And it packed a punch. Maybe 8%? Loved it. I know Southern Tier is out of upstate NY but it is newer to Mich so may have a hard time finding it. If we get anymore of it I will set a couple aside for you.

Question though, which Arcadia did you try? I’m assuming it was Jaw-Jacker? Just got a six pack today and while it’s good it’s no pumpkin ale. The search continues…

Thanks, Alexia! Southern Tier’s Pumpkin Ale sounds tasty! We’ll be heading to MSU for the Iowa game in a few weeks; we’ll try to make a swing over in your direction that weekend… especially if you have a couple of these bad boys on hold for us. HA!

And yes, the Arcadia was the Jaw Jacker. It did get better with every drink… just… not as much pumpkin flavor as I’d like. Screaming Pumpkin was just too damn yummy! We were spoiled!

I have also been on the hunt to replace MBC and have been so sad in everything so far. Wolaver’s pumpkin is ok but not great. The Dogfish is super delicious but its a little to dark even for a fall ale. Please help me.

I think Griffin Claw Brewery in Michigan has taken over the rights to brew it. It is called Screamin’-Pumpkin Ale. Bought some today and my daughter claims that it tastes just like the original.

Yes Mike, the same brewer that worked at MBC and developed that recipe moved onto Griffin Claw. It is indeed pretty close to the original.

Not sure if this site is still active, but Griffin Claw, a newish brewery from Birmingham Michigan acquired the recipe and have released their version of Screaming Pumpkin in 16oz cans. pretty close to the original as i recall it.

First of all, yes, this site is active; this post, however, is 2 years old. And yes, the same brewer that worked at MBC and developed that recipe moved onto Griffin Claw. It is indeed pretty close to the original.
